For those that attended the SCSC’s Symposium in Feb 2024, you may recall we asked attendees to think about important historical events in the world of system safety. These might have been specific accidents or other significant event such as the publication of a standard or land-mark court case etc. These were then captured on “post it” notes on a large timeline display that spanned multiple presentation boards. We have now collated this initial set of data and enriched it to include fuller descriptions and images, and are using a timeline presentation tool to allow users to interactively browse the data. The timeline can be viewed in 3D as in the top image, and you can scroll back and forward in time. There is also a 2D view. If you are interested in finding out more about a particular event then you can click on an individual item and a brief description will be presented. You can also then click ‘Find out more’ to be taken to an external resource, such as Wikipedia to get a full description of the event.
We have over 150 entries at the moment, but we think there are still many more events that need to be captured! We are therefore looking for your continued support in this endeavour, so we would very much like you to continue to add items to the timeline. To make this easier, we now have an online method for adding events. This is available to registered users of the website and the form will appear below if you have logged on to the site.
There is also Safety Timeline Help if you need guidance on filling out the form.
