Data is here: The way that systems are being designed and built is changing. Whereas data was once used simply to configure (and leave configured) a system, its use is rapidly expanding as developers seek to exploit the flexibility provided by data-driven systems. Data is growing: There are at least two reasons why the use of data has grown and, equally important, why it is expected to continue to grow. The first relates to the rapid expansion of the area loosely termed “Big Data”. The second is the growing use of systems of systems, where data is the lifeblood that connects together disparate elements and allows a cohesive capability to be built.
