The Dependability Theme of the SSEI is looking for methods to improve the resilience of software in operation. SSEI Task 19 is studying the options for improving dynamic risk assessment in complex Systems of Systems (SoS). Specifically Task 19 aims to create a prototype tool to carry out dynamic risk assessment; this tool will eventually allow an operator in the field to see a live picture helping him to understand safety concerns within the SoS. However, the prototype tool will need further work in order to be deployable in the field. This tool will also have an evaluative role, allowing a user to understand the potential properties of different SoS configurations – for example how the potential for risk trades off against possible use of resources.
